Community 2022
is an annual gathering of 30 to 40 people who meet the "same time next year." The gathering gives us a forum to hear, learn and get support from others as we move our lives forward and try to make some sense of what is happening to us individually and collectively.
Message to the World from the 2009 Gathering of Community 2022
1. The 2012 Election will be hard fought and even more people need to get involved.
2. Some Americans are becoming apathetic and think the fight for a better society (addressing racism, poverty, social justice) is over.
3. We need to accentuate the positives that are happening in the country and not build on fear mongering.
4. All politics are local — so it is critical to start at the local level.
5. Life is about Transitions... a series of transitions.
6. Creating a safe place for people enables them to be themselves and then wonderful things happen.
7. Instead of focusing on CHANGE, which can feel overwhelming, it is more helpful to think about making a 10% shift.
8. It is important to create a personal practice (exercise, yoga, meditation, other) to get out of heads and into hearts.
9. Community 2022 serves as a witnessing of the meaning of our lives.
10. For some, being here is part of our self care.
11. When dealing with grief, it is helpful to take the best of what one has learned from one part of life and take it to the next part of life.
